Three months after the Battle of Hogwarts, grief still hung heavy over the Burrow. One stormy night, the family clock’s hand for Fred—long frozen at “dead”—trembled. George huddled alone, clinging to Fred’s wand and old blanket, his world hollow without his twin. Molly begged him to rest, but he whispered he waited for something impossible.
Abruptly, lightning and thunder shook the house. The fire flared an eerie purple, and a sharp knock cut through the rain. When George opened the door, he saw a soaked figure: Fred, identical in every way, yet unnaturally pale with empty eyes.
“Mum… I think I’m lost,” he murmured.
The Weasleys flooded in, weeping and laughing at the miracle. But George froze—something was deeply wrong. St Mungo’s later confirmed Fred’s body was whole, but his soul had a massive “rift”, with no memory of his death. His touch turned things to ice, and he spoke of a cold, calling voice from beyond.
Hermione discovered the truth: George, driven by unbearable sorrow, had used ancient blood magic to yank Fred back from death. But this act tore open a dangerous rift between life and death, and the magic was slowly consuming George’s soul to sustain Fred’s return.
Trouble erupted quickly. At their joke shop reopening, Fred’s fireworks warped into screaming ghostly faces. At a party, the rift flared: Fred turned translucent, dark veins spreading up his arm, and Hogwarts’ ghosts fled in terror, warning the boundary between life and death was collapsing.
George broke down, admitting he’d selfishly dragged Fred back, dooming them both. Fred, however, had heard whispers in death of a dealer named Night Owl in Knockturn Alley who could mend the rift—for a terrible price.
As the resurrection stone burned with a grave warning, Harry realized this desperate, fragile reunion was only the start of a catastrophe threatening their world.
